COMMISSION A PAINTING

Method of Working:

Commissioning a painting involves planning with you what your vision and expectations will be. To avoid confusion, I prefer to communicate with one designated person during the process. Having observed thousands of faces during my nursing career, I now enjoy capturing subtle nuances and expressions of the human face in paint. Pets, too, have interesting quirks and personalities that are fun to paint!

The Commission Process:

  • I typically start by discussing your ideas and pricing via e-mail or phone.

  • After a general discussion, I would like multiple photos for reference. Photos with natural light are preferable, avoiding formal studio lighting. When possible, I prefer to meet one-on-one to obtain sketches from life and take some photos of my own.

  • Using the sketches and photos, I will compose a non-detailed, non-color compositional sketch/study that I will send you for initial approval for content and design.

  • Nearing completion, I will submit the almost finished painting for your approval via e-mail.

  • When finished, I’ll contact you so we can meet for delivery or work out shipping via mail. Prior to shipment, I would like the final payment. If delivering, I will accept it at that time.

  • Shipping/crating will be an added cost (since each piece is a different size and speed of delivery will vary costs). Framing is not included, though I am happy to give suggestions.

  • Please understand that the copyright of the image belongs to the artist so that it may be used for promotional reasons including use on this website (However, if the painting is a gift, it will not be posted until the buyer gives permission).
